My Story

I proudly identify as a first-generation, low-income Mexican student from Ceres, a small city in California's Central Valley. Both of my parents are from Michoacan, Mexico, and their resilience and strength empower me to persevere as I study Computer Science at the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) here at Columbia. I’m planning to major in Computer Science, and my journey in academia really took off after my freshman year when I interned as a Software Development Engineer at Amazon. It was during that experience that I fell in love with the tech world, and it sparked a desire in me to explore this incredible field even further. I hope to continue learning from others in STEM, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds who are pushing the boundaries of innovation.

I joined SACNAS+ during my freshman year, where I discovered an amazing network of support in STEM. At Columbia, I found people who are not only incredibly driven but also deeply dedicated to empowering others. This community of diligent, hardworking individuals has been a huge source of inspiration for me, and I’m eager to give back and continue supporting others in their STEM journeys.

Fun fact about me is I love enjoying some chilaquiles—specifically, the ones my mom makes. I'm also part of the Columbia Women’s Soccer Club. Living in New York has also been amazing because of all the diverse food options available. I love trying new dishes from all over the city.
